Review: InstaNatural Vitamin C Moisturizer & Serum

The following review is powered by Brand Backer. The products that I will be discussing in this post have been provided to me, for free, from InstaNatural, for the purpose of review. The opinions expressed here, as always, are honest & are my own.

InstaNatural sent me two products from their Vitamin C line. The first product I will be discussing is the Youth Express Vitamin C Moisturizer.

The promises made about this product include the following, which were taken from the official product listing on Amazon.

  • Strong 20% Vitamin C Protection – Our moisturizer contains a robust 20% concentration of Vitamin C to help deliver the best results to your skin. Vitamin C is a powerful antioxidant agent that protects your skin from the damaging effects of sun exposure, all while restoring healthier skin. Daily application will help to diminish the appearance of wrinkles, fine lines, and more.
  • Brightens Complexion – If you’re concerned about age spots, sun spots, or splotchy skin, then our Vitamin C Moisturizer might be the perfect fit for you. Our formula includes Niacinamide, Plant Stem Cells, Peptide Complex and MSM, which all work together to deliver deep nourishment to strengthen skin over time and reduce the appearance of hyperpigmentation, thereby creating a more even skin tone.

Truthfully, I have been in the market for a good, inexpensive Vitamin C moisturizer & serum. Vitamin C is proven to be good for aiding in everything from dark spots & acne scars to aging skin. As far as the promises boasted by this moisturizer go, I cannot vouch for them as I did not completely finish the product. In order to see those kinds of results, I believe that one would need to use the product for an extended period of time.

The reason I did not finish this product is I do not believe that it is right for my skin type. I spent most of my life with extremely oily skin. Now that I’m a bit older, I would call my skin “combination.” My forehead, chin, & the area around my mouth tends to dry out easily. My cheeks & nose tend to be extremely oily.

If you’re like me & you have oily or combination skin, I would not recommend this product. It is a thick moisturizer that dries sticky & doesn’t appear to sink in the entire way on the oilier areas of my face. I didn’t, however, have that issue on the dryer areas of my skin. My forehead, chin, & mouth area felt moisturized & non-sticky. I think this would be a very good product for anyone who has universally dry skin on their face.

While using this moisturizer, I had a few acne breakouts. I had not had a breakout in a long while & once I got this particular breakout, I stopped using the moisturizer. I’m hesitant to say that the moisturizer was definitely the reason for my breakout, as breakouts can be caused by absolutely anything. However, I had a strong suspicion that there was a direct correlation between the sticky feeling left on my skin & the breakouts that occurred in the same area.

Skin products are very personal & no one product can work for everyone. This did not work out for me. However, if you are curious about this moisturizer, by all means give it a try. If you do, I would love to hear how it works out for you.

The next product that was sent to me was the Advanced Formula Vitamin C Serum.

The promises made about this product include the following, which were taken from the official product listing on Amazon.

  • SMOOTH APPLICATION – ABSORBS QUICKLY: This specialized serum provides instant hydration to the skin and goes on smoothly to provide soothing relief and moisture. It’s a thick serum and very easy to spread with your fingers (unlike other water based serums). In addition, the Hyaluronic Acid prevalent in the serum enhances hydration further by boosting the skin’s ability to retain moisture throughout the day to help combat dry and/or damaged skin.
  • FIGHTS AGAINST AGING: Our Vitamin C Serum is the perfect solution for your anti-aging needs. Our premium ingredients deliver potent results by boosting collagen production to help diminish the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles and even age spots! No more worries about skin discoloration or pigmentation.
  • OTHER SKIN BENEFITS: Even if you aren’t looking to get rid of those pesky wrinkles or fine lines, our Vitamin C Serum can be used for so much more. It will also provide your skin with a better and smoother complexion by shrinking pores and evening out your skin tone to impart a youthful glowing radiance.

Once again, I cannot vouch for these promises as I did not use this product for an extended period of time. In fact, I refused to apply this product to my face. Upon opening the bottle, I was immediately turned off by both the texture/color & the odor.

The serum is an orange color with a thick, milky consistency which I found a bit unusual simply because I’d never used a serum that wasn’t thin & clear. I could have overlooked that if it weren’t for the odor. The odor is extremely potent & is reminiscent of rotting oranges.

I actually can’t imagine applying something to my face with that sort of smell. Therefore, I chose not to. I cannot recommend this product since I didn’t use it myself. If what I have described sounds like something that would not bother you, then this may be a good product for you to try.

In conclusion, I will not be continuing to use either of these InstaNatural Vitamin C products. I think the moisturizer might work for people with universally dry facial skin. I don’t think it’s appropriate for those who have oily, combination, or acne-prone skin. As for the serum, if you’re a person who is easily bothered by fragrances in your products, this is not for you. Otherwise, you may be able to use it with no problem.

Again, Skin products are very personal & no one product can work for everyone. You may try these products & disagree with me completely. If you do, feel free to leave me a comment & share your experience. 1. Thank you for the honest review! My skin is dry-combination (I’m more “normal” in my T-zone, and acne prone), and pretty sensitive, so anything with a pungent scent I try to stay away from.

  2. I received both but have only used the Vitamin C moisturizer. It was too oily for my oily skin type too. It made me look very shiny later but it lightened my dark spots from using it for a week. So if anything it would be a good night moisturizer but not daytime.

I wasn’t a fan of the scent either. To me, it was a very pungent citrus and smelled like vitamins lol. However, when I let my cousin try this (she has a sensitive-dry skin type) she said it worked well for her.

  3. I have tried both of these products in a partnership with Brandbacker and I actually like them. I have combo skin and it gets oilier faster than usual with this but I like the extra moisture in the winter. The serum definitely has a pungent scent but I don’t really mind it. I don’t think it smells like “rotten oranges” but now I won’t be able to keep myself from thinking that when I use it from now on. I have definitely noticed a change is my skin and feel like it has helped to brighten my complexion. Sorry it didn’t work out for you!

  4. Thanks for the honest review. I have a dry skin but not very experiential when it comes to fragranced products, especially if its that strong. Was never a fan of oranges, anyway!!

  5. I’m with ya on the combination skin thing. It’s super hard finding a moisturizer that suits all areas of your face. I’ve had really good luck with Simple Replenishing Rich moisturizer. It is super gentle and soaks in well, and even though it is called “rich” it doesn’t leave me feeling oily in certain spots after a few hours. I definitely recommend that one if you’re ever in need 🙂

    • I’m actually using this one right now. Haha! I’ve switched all of my Skincare to Simple products at the moment to review it all. Thanks for the recommendation! That gives me all the more reason to stick with it! 🙂
